The Shetland word for homecoming.

Also a traditional event that occurs every 25 years or so for those of Shetland descent. No such event heralded our arrival in Shetland, so we just got some of these lovely pale ales from Shetland Brewery instead. A very juicy pale ale which would be well suited to long afternoons next to the BBQ with some of the local lamb and mint sauce. I wonder if they export…

Mum and Dad arranged for some visits down memory lane and to see relatives.

Morning tea at Ingrid and Allan’s – the girl’s first ever battenberg cakes.

Sunday roast with Betty and Gifford – best meal on tour.

In 1991 we had a holiday in Shetland and stayed in the house where Betty and Gifford now live Sandness (pronounced Saaness). I have a memory of being on the beach and looking back at the house.

Here is a beautiful view from from Whiteness (I think), but the Pano doesn’t really do it justice.
