I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

George Best

Perhaps Belfast’s most famous son.

On the topic of murals, this was one of the things I was interested in seeing in Belfast. We did the hop on hop off tour (always barter these guys down) and got to see and feel some of the Troubles which were always on the news during the 1980s.

We arrived in Belfast on Monday 14 July, a public holiday on the Monday following 12 July (being the Saturday) in NI to celebrate King William’s victory at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690. Still a hot topic, all 335 years later.

The Peace Wall is still in place. Had to be extended in height a few times here!

An example of the Republican side:

Shankill Road – Unionist. Was always in the news.

One example of the flags and signs all over the bits of Northern Ireland we went to.

Finally, as it is Northern Ireland – we got wet on the bus.

The most interesting place I’ve been to on tour.
