Day 3: Port of call is Kusadasi on the Turkish coast and an excursion to Ephesus.

Turkey is the first new country for everybody (until today Kel had been to every country we have visited). Kusadasi is an Turkish holiday town and the gateway for lots of cruise ships to visit the ancient ruins of Ephesus.
We visited the 3rd, Greco-Roman, reincarnation of Ephesus (there are 4 apparently – they had to keep moving it because the river kept silting up the bay). The sea is now many miles away from this once port city.
This is the Ephesus mentioned many times in the bible. Unlike the Acropolis and the Parthenon, Ephesus has been unearthed in a more complete state and you can easily envisage the way these people lived (including the communal toilet block, with another Turkish cat).

Check out the remnants of the Trajan Fountain, prepared by the towns people in honour of Emperor Trajan (one of the despot variety) with his foot on the globe – he has conquered all the World – they understood the world was round and that flattery reduced taxes.

Nike and her swoosh.

The highlight was definitely the detail of The Library.

It was busy and hot, hot, hot – Roxy almost faded on us!
Then it was back to the Port and the obligatory carpet demonstration. Roxy had a go! I also got to try some Raki (no doubt some sore heads acquiring the taste).

Turkish coffee – maybe not the finest example.

Then it was back on board for more food.
Would i go back: Ephesus was great, but i don’t need to see any more.
