“Abandon all that culture for synthetic excess”

Adrian Colberg, Sept 2025

After the cruise finished we found ourselves for one night in Porto Rafti, Attica, the other side of Athens. A quaint Athenian holiday spot i’m sure neither Kel, Daisy, Roxy or I will ever go back to. Update the budget, do the blog and read your book before the 4 hour flight to Abu Dhabi, where Adi met at us the airport for a weekend in the United Arab Emirates.

The girls (and I) suggested we went back to Atlantis Water Park, but with the locals’ inside knowledge, instead we headed to Yas Waterworld for another day of water slide fun.

With sore feet we headed back to Adi and Zoe’s lovely new house and caught up over lamb and red wine.

The next morning Adi and I got the morning off to play a round of golf at JGE’s Fire Course. A great morning of swings, misses and some golf shots. I did manage to par the second which made the day for me.

In October 2025, Rory & Co appear in the Race to Dubai final on JGE’s Earth Course.

The golf was the calm before the storm as Adi and Zoe kindly hosted Richy, Liz and Louis for the afternoon. Some quality time and Turkish Delight had between old friends, Godparents/children and God brothers/sisters (it’s a Daisy thing…)

Our final morning in Dubai was also our final morning of schooling for Tidlets on Tour. With the Term 3 post assessments completed (well done to the Students and Teachers), we headed off to the Dubai old town.

After a sweaty trip into the Gold, Grand and Utensil Souks (yes the Utensil Souk), we abandoned the old for the synthetic excess of the Dubai Mall, the massive aquarium, yet another visit to Sephora and the search for some reasonably priced Dubai chocolate (failed – should have got it at the Souk!).

Our final Uber of the day took us to DBX and another plane. Onto the final leg of tour…
