Mavis Grind + the birth of Thistlebottom

Mavis Grind (pronounced Mavis Grin-d) is our most Northerly point of tour.

60.39904 N, 1.38561 W

An isthmus joining the Northmavine peninsular to the rest of Shetland’s Mainland. On one side is the Atlantic, the other the North Sea. With a strong arm you can throw a stone from the middle of the road to each sea.

Thistlebottom who?

Well as you can tell from this picture it was rather windy and just before this picture my new hat had blown off. Being well trained both Daisy and Roxy dashed down a slope to save it. Daisy slipped down and landed in sheep poo, but calamity Roxy saved the day but landed on her bottom on one of Scotland’s emblematic flowers! She had a sore bum.

We did not make it for the longest day, but as per earlier post, it is pretty light up here. I took this photo at 1am on 7 July 2025 in Lerwick.
